Artist’s Statement My paintings are the product of a collection of my thoughts. I have discovered my use of creative thought is an agent of change in my life. I can step back from my life and introduce it into my paintings in form, function and thought juxtaposed next to color, relief and images in an environment of oil and assemblage. I hope to uncover and delve into my Native American roots using pieces of life that I have picked up over the years plus information I have discovered about my people, Dena’ina Athabascan. I look at my art as a means of piecing together a painting, like piecing together a quilt. In essence, this is how I seem to look at life – as different segments coming together to form a whole. Like life, the found objects have to be pieced into the whole to make sense of what is real and unreal. |
